We are extremely proud to have been selected as one of the English Hubs serving the North East of London and the East of England.
We have come on a long journey since 2008 when Ofsted put our school, Grazebrook Primary, into special measures. Since then, the school has been transformed, not least by our dedication to putting the teaching of reading at the heart of all that we do.
In 2012, we were graded outstanding and have maintained those very high standards by our relentless pursuit of the best possible outcomes for our pupils. (Link to full 2012 Ofsted report). Our phonics and end of Key Stage 1 reflect our commitment to excellence:
Our school expected
N.A greater depth
Our school greater depth
Factors which have helped us to achieve our results include:
our fidelity to a systematic, synthetic phonics scheme;
the way our early years’ curriculum is designed around high quality texts;
our dedication to creating language rich learning environments;
the way we embed vocabulary teaching throughout the curriculum;
the emphasis we place on reading for pleasure;
our partnership with parents to support reading at home;
the way we create beautiful reading areas and celebrate books.
We are very excited to have the opportunity to share the expertise we have developed with other schools and to support them in their own journeys to raising standards.
